the Waterford stewards were positioned in section c from peg 1 - 15 ,and we were allocated 2 anglers each.
the two anglers i stewarded on day one were Ruslan Timbal (Moldova) and Bert De Mulder (Belgium).at 8.30 the anglers were allow into there sections to set up their boxes and rods.During this time they also searched their section of water for likely holding areas for fish like deeper water or a plateau, this was done by casting repeatedly and counting down the weight to the bottom 1 second equals 1 foot when you cast a one ounce weight. So so twenty seconds would be 20 foot ,C section ranged between 7 to 10 foot.
At 9.30 the anglers bait is checked by the chief stewards to make sure they had the allocated limits (12 liters of groundbait (wet) and 2.5 liters of live bait, of which a maximum amount of 0.50 liters shall be joker and bloodworm.
Then at 9.50 the anglers were allowed to pre bait their section by casting out the feeder with their chosen mix.
then at 10 o clock they started the 5 hour match, the stewards duties were to ensure that the only persons entering the anglers box was the team captain.and we counted all fish for a hourly tally.
the tactics choice were simple you either fished for small fish like roach and perch from 1 oz to 6 oz or for larger fish bream and skimmers of from 1/2 lb to 3lb .There was a longer wait for the bigger fish but the weighed heavier. So the choice was could you catch enough small fish to to beat a big fish when it was caught.the teams had honed their tactics on the previous 5 days of practice. The two anglers that i was stewarding were a good example of the tactics the Moldovan angler concentrated on small fish and the Belgian angler feed two sections one or small fish and one for the larger bream.By the end of the match he had caught 29 fish but eleven of them were the larger fish and he weighed in over 4 kgs compared to the Moldovan s 36 fish for 1.2 kgs.
During the match we had monsoon rain fro about an hour with little or no wind.
So departed the venue to dry out at our accommodation Nadrid house which is a beautiful Georgian house on the banks of the lake .our host penny had hot tea and coffee ready for us on arrival and a greeting from many of her friendly dogs.We then departed for O,Callaghans to eat ,drink and talk about the days action.
Day Two arrived all to soon with a crow from a noisy cockerel and a braying donkey who it seemed were having a loud early morning conversation .So after a hearty breakfast ,we again departed for section C and the same pegs we stewarded the previous day.
The results of the previous day had given England a large lead in the team event and two of their anglers in prime position for the individual title .But it was also good news for Ireland who were in second place in the team event and 1 st place in the individual event.
The anglers on my pegs on day two were Micheal Jensen ( Sweden) and Radeck Cerney ( Czech Republic). the section fished better on day 2 with more bream and skimmers showing. In the match Michael Jensen started off catching big skimmers and bream with 6 in the first hour . but these fish disappeared by hour 3 ,but the Czech angler caught small fish throughout the match in the end he had the bigger weight with 6.7 kgs compared to 4.5 kgs.
once the results from the other sections came through there was a rush to the C4 peg to Steve Ringer (England) who was confirmed individual world champion. Also the news that England had won the team with Ireland claiming their first team medal in coarse angling and the consistent dutch coming third.
The Coachford community center was full too the rafters for the medal giving and the renditions of God Save the Queen and Amhran na BhFiann could be heard as far away as cork .So well done to all the organisers but especially to Tommy Lawton from Fermoy for such a well run event and bringing the vision to reality.
Master Angler last Two Matches.
Oaklands
The latest in the annual master angler series took place today at Oaklands Lake, New Ross and 9 anglers enjoyed the Indian Summer conditions although for most the fishing was more than a little frustrating. The cream however once more rose to the top and Danny Murphy struggled to the scales with a winning ton plus bag. Danny kept the fish coming for most of the competition and in the end was well clear of travelling partner "the Gatherer". For the rest it was a tactical test to try and keep putting fish in the net as they fed in bursts or not at all although plenty of fish were visible enjoying the late summer Rays, or were they just winding us up?

Leighlinbridge
Oh dear. It was a lovely still sunny morning when the 10 anglers gathered on the river bank in Leiglinbridge for the draw, the river was clear and running steady and a few wisps of mist flickered across the river. The consensus was that a few fish would show but in the end the scales were redundant as no one caught anything big enough to register . It was decided to allow 1/2 oz per fish and in the end there was a clear winner.
RESULT

jt 2 1/2 oz i.e. 1 fish each
